The average daily waste produced by a common man is around 4.5 pounds. In 2009, only 34% of the waste was recovered by America. The thrown away material estimates around 3 pound of waste per person with an accumulated sum of 161 Million tons of waste.
With these statistics, we can get that the 82 million tons of material that was recycled, reduced the CO2 emission that is equivalent of taking around 33millon vehicles off the road. If the rest of the materials were recycled too with the help of professional electronic waste recycling companies, they would have saved the United States more than 7 Million Dollars that can be spent on the betterment of society.
Let's talk about paper
There is no doubt that with the advancement of technology, the use of paper has reduced a little but we are still using a lot of paper in our offices and educational institutions.
In 2010, almost 64% of the paper was recovered that is a huge achievement as compared to past few years but still, the paper that was just thrown away worth 2.8 billion.
Few Facts about paper and its recycling
- Production of recycled paper consumes 40% less energy as compared to production of paper from wood pulp.
- 1 Ton of uncoated paper takes around 24 fully grown trees to make paper for office and printing purpose.
- Per Ton production of recycled paper saves 7 Thousand gallons of water.
- As compared to production of virgin paper, production of recycled paper produces 35% less water pollution and 74% less water pollution.
